3M Scotchgard finish.

Comparison of Suede (top) and nubuck (bottom).

“Forever” suede from Conceria Zabri is now available!

Made from calf butt splits, it features nap (hair fibers) that are tight and clean. Conceria Zabri specializes in suede tanning and this particular article is renowned for its 3M Scotchgard finish which gives it a hydrophobic surface and excellent resistance against stain.

Nubuck vs suede:

Nubuck is top grain leather that has been roughed down to create a napped texture. Suede on the other hand is made using the opposite side of the skin (fibers underneath top grain of the leather). Hence why suede will have a more fibrous appearance compared to the delicate look of nubuck.

I’ve avoided using suede for the longest time as many of the ones I tried in the past didn’t have the consistency or integrity required for fine leather crafting. Then I discovered the world of Italian suede, who would have known that there are so many different properties that suede can have? Some are extra velvety but is too delicate for everyday use, some are rough and durable but with loose fibers. It was important to have something that can withstand every day wear while still maintaining a clean look and the “Forever” suede ticked all the boxes.
