HORSEHIDE STRIPS
Also known known as north of cordovan, these leather strips are originally part of the lower butt used to make shell cordovans. After the first stage of tanning, shells are trimmed off for further processing while the remainder becomes to what is known as the horse strips.
Unlike natural tanned cowhide, these horse strips are softer but much heavier due to its dense fibers. It patinas towards the pink hue and while it is not considered to be as elegant as the Italian cowhide, these skins can handle much more wear and abuse. An excellent choice for items intended for long use and will patina with a vintage appeal.
Tannery: Horween (USA).
Temper: Medium (soft but very dense).
Surface: Lots of natural marks and fatty lines.
Tanning: Mixed tan.
Patina: Will absorb much more wear compared to veg tan cowhide. Has a slight pink hue.
Other notes: Very dense fiber, excellent for hard use.
